Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been earned on hardcourt

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev claimed his maiden title for over two years with victory over opponent Moutet in the competition final.

Medvedev, a ex- number one, has experienced a challenging period, winning just one win at the big events and suffering a meltdown at the New York tournament.

His varied form on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serve in particular - caused him exiting of the elite rankings and eventually splitting with former trainer Cervara.

Now training with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily advanced in the last few weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought competitive triumph over challenger Moutet.

This marks the player's maiden championship since the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard surface after March of that year.

Victory also means the Russian has won twenty-one victories at twenty-one various competitions.

"It's the first time I have attended a event with my children at once, so to get a championship is particularly special," commented ranked player Medvedev.

"This championship is in tribute of my younger daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I got when my child my daughter was born was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his past six finals, featuring in Halle earlier this year.

The player's counter-punching strategy and frequent reactions on the tennis court had prompted commentators to question if his ability to play at the top level was over.

But the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, striving to come to the net and compete positively, supported by an improved serving game.

He came back from a deficit in the first set against the tricky Moutet, securing four of the concluding five exchanges to gain the advantage.

The pair traded service breaks in the following set before the challenger, attempting for his maiden tour victory, gained dominance to create a decider.

He defended four early opportunities in a competitive third set before the Russian won the break to that score to close out the victory.

Fittingly, the winner secured victory with a rally at the net, with the Frenchman failing to handle a return after a lengthy match.
