The Film 'Together' Can Be Streamed, and It Might Make or Break Your Romantic Bond.

We present a dare for those in enduring partnerships who are fans of the horror genre: Get comfortable with your partner and watch Together. This critically acclaimed 2025 movie recently had its streaming debut on the Hulu service. At first glance, it might appear like standard body horror, but beneath Together exists a deep examination about our choices in loving each other.

A Debut Feature Exploring Partnership Complexities

Together represents the first full-length movie for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It showcases Dave Franco and Alison Brie as a couple named Tim and Millie, partners that have remained a couple for a decade. Having wed in reality in 2017, the two stars infuse a unique chemistry to their characters, expertly portraying both the joys and frustrations of a committed partnership.

The narrative commences when Tim and Millie move from the metropolis to the country for Millie’s job. A familiar story element, admittedly, but that’s largely where the conventions cease. Together transforms into as much a examination of mental states of the pair’s relationship as it is a film about physical terror.

An Otherworldly Trigger

While trekking near their country house, a storm hits, and the two tumble into an subterranean cavern. After a night spent there and eventually escaping, a supernatural entity takes hold of the couple. This force creates a paranormal intimacy between them that goes exceeding simple connection.

The whole movie is a slow burn fright fest, interspersing bits of dreamlike terrors, gross (but not excessively graphic) physical transformations, and genuinely funny exchanges (sometimes during something grotesque). Michael Shanks weaves these elements together neatly and wraps them up in a consistently growing atmosphere of fear.

Layered Performances

A significant portion of Together is solely the performances of its stars, and they skillfully illustrate manifold depths to the dynamic between Tim and Millie. Millie's sense of self and emotional bond is waning due to a lack of intimacy. Her unspoken irritation of Tim for his reluctance to focus on anything other than his failing musical ambitions slowly bubbles to the surface.

In contrast, Tim's character senses confinement and isolated by Millie, who’s the impetus they’ve relocated rural and removed from his network of friends. He fears the concept of totally forfeiting his sense of self in his partner. This fear is amplified by the fact he can’t drive and relies on Millie for getting around.

The film's most intelligent aspect is that he never makes Tim or Millie the definite antagonist.

Tim and Millie grapple with the kind of problems that arise in any relationship after ten years. At their core, they have affection for one another. They find humor with each other, provide solace, and are vulnerable at times. But below this facade, there’s an unavoidable undercurrent of doubt about their bond.

Thematic Depth

While the paranormal elements in Together symbolize these anxieties of excessive reliance and giving oneself over to a partner, the allegory does not come across as overly obvious or self-important. Instead, these ickier, creepier moments offer a perfect parallel to the interpersonal storytelling. Both the frights and the fights work together in harmony.

A Debated Finale

Together’s conclusion, which won’t be spoiled here, has left audiences divided on the movie's final takeaway about codependent relationships. Accounts suggest that unattached audience members have understood the narrative as a strong argument for staying single. On the other hand, certain partners who were in conflict found that the film ultimately assisted them make up.

Regardless of your relationship status, your own reaction could act as a great barometer of how you view relationships. Will the conclusion inspire feelings of uneasiness and dread, or a positive outlook on love? Will you see yourself in one of the characters and feel frustration, or simply turn to your other half and utter, “I’d do that for you”?

No matter your reaction, Together is an exploration you can embark on right now.

Together is streaming on Hulu's platform as of this moment.
