The tournament joins the US and Aussie Opens in employing video review systems.
Replay systems will be launched at Wimbledon this year.
Players will gain the option to contest specific decisions from the official, echoing the system currently in place at both the US Open and the Australian Open.
This technology will be accessible on the main stadium and Court One throughout the tournament and on the remaining featured courts when they are staging singles contests.
This move follows just a season following the AELTC implemented ELC, which brought an end to the centuries-old tradition of line judges.
What Can Be Reviewed?
Players cannot to challenge the accuracy of the ELC system, but they can request the official to review specific situations, including:
- Whether a ball has bounced twice.
- Whether a ball made contact with an opponent's racquet or body during play.
- Possible hindrance end of a point.
Importantly, there will be no cap on the amount of challenges a competitor can request.
A Recent Example
A recent incident took place in a recent tournament last week, where Daniil Medvedev used the review system against Jack Draper.
The British player admitted it was a difficult call for the official, but believed his rival had "played the rules quite well."
The umpire watched a video and determined the player was responsible for interference, granting the rally to his opponent.
Growing Trend
This technology aren't new for major tournaments. It was adopted at the American major since 2023 and the Aussie Open this year.
Furthermore, it is becoming more common on the women’s WTA Tour, and by the coming year the men's ATP Tour plans to have the system implemented at all of its tournaments.
Additional Innovations
Another innovation at Wimbledon 2025 will be the addition of visual indicators on displays to support the verbal announcements from the electronic line calling system.
This solves situations where spectators have sometimes been unsure whether a shot was in or out.
In other news, with precisely 100 days remaining until the beginning of the tournament, the AELTC have further announced an expansion in daily attendance at the qualifying competition in the qualifying venue.
